Islamabad: Government is gearing up to implement another surge in electricity prices, with a potential increase of Rs3.48 per unit for the upcoming month.

Today, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to review the request for the monthly fuel price adjustment.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has proposed this price hike as part of the April Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA), which, if sanctioned, could impose an additional burden of approximately Rs34 billion on consumers.

According to the petition, no electricity was generated from furnace oil and diesel in April. Hydropower accounted for 22.96 percent of electricity generation, while local coal contributed 10.19 percent.

Furthermore, 11.28 percent of electricity was generated from domestic gas, 24.97 percent from imported Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), and 23.64 percent from nuclear fuel during April.
