Islamabad, Sep 4: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issues a warning against hackers Targeting Pakistani Social Media Users with OTPs Scams. Hackers are requesting One-Time Passwords (OTPs) from users using links they deliver, which is increasing the number of Facebook, WhatsApp, and other app hacking instances.
Users are cautioned by the PTA that it will never request personal information, passwords, or one-time passwords via phone, email, or message. To safeguard themselves against these scams, users are encouraged not to divulge their information or click on unexpected websites.
The PTA has requested customers to report or block scammer numbers to their mobile phone providers, as well as to contact the PTA directly, in an effort to prevent these fraudulent activities. On the PTA website, PTA CMS mobile app, or by calling the PTA’s toll-free number, users can file complaints.
Users can also file financial fraud reports with the State Bank of Pakistan and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The PTA’s warning follows several complaints from customers on social media over money fraud and account hacking via phony links and OTPs.
