Islamabad, Mar 25, 2025: In a decisive move against the illegal issuance of SIM cards, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, Lahore, conducted a successful raid on a telecom franchise in Mianwali.

The operation targeted unlawful activities related to SIM registration and biometric verification fraud.

Illegal SIM Issuance Busted

Authorities discovered that the franchise bypassed biometric security protocols, leading to unauthorized SIM issuance.

As part of the crackdown, officials seized 496 digital fingerprint impressions, multiple Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices, two scanners, and a laptop.

The FIA team confiscated all the equipment as evidence to aid further investigations. They also arrested the franchise owner and registered an FIR to initiate legal proceedings.

Investigation Underway to Identify More Offenders

Following the raid, the FIA Cyber Crime Circle has launched a full-scale investigation to trace additional individuals linked to this illegal operation.

Authorities are uncovering networks involved in biometric fraud and taking strict action against those who violate national security regulations.

The PTA has been actively working to prevent unauthorized SIM issuance by reinforcing the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS).
