In recent developments, PTCL (Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd) has been actively addressing the slow internet speeds across Pakistan due to a fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable near Qatar. PTCL has announced that they’ve injected additional bandwidth into their network, which has significantly alleviated the issues caused by this disruption. The company reassured users that while some might still encounter slower speeds during peak hours, especially when accessing Meta-related services like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, the situation is expected to stabilize soon.

The efforts to resolve the disruptions are supported by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), which has been closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with PTCL to expedite the resolution process. Both entities are working diligently, and a complete resolution is anticipated in the coming days. This issue has particularly impacted freelancers and other significant internet-dependent sectors in Pakistan, leading to broader concerns among the public and officials alike.

Moreover, there’s a new development on the horizon that could further improve the situation. PTCL, in collaboration with international partners, is laying a major undersea internet cable, the 2Africa Submarine Cable System, which promises to enhance internet speed and reliability significantly by Q4 2025. This new cable will connect multiple locations across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East and is expected to boost Pakistan’s internet bandwidth substantially.
