Islamabad, Jan 13: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled an ambitious plan to provide 40,000 housing loans by May 2025, as part of the transformative “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” initiative.

During a high-level meeting to review the program’s progress, the Chief Minister sanctioned a substantial budget of Rs. 62 billion to expedite the project. She emphasized the importance of timely implementation and directed officials to accelerate the loan distribution process to ensure maximum impact.

To enhance the program’s reach, the Chief Minister proposed raising the maximum loan limit from Rs. 1.5 million to Rs. 2 million, aiming to offer greater financial support to aspiring homeowners.

She stressed the need for accessibility, stating, “Affordable housing is not a privilege but a basic right. We are committed to ensuring that every individual in Punjab has a place to call home.”

The initiative has already begun transforming lives, with officials reporting that 5,000 individuals have accessed loans, and over 4,200 homes are nearing completion across the province.

These achievements highlight the program’s effectiveness and its potential to uplift countless low-income families.

A unique aspect of the initiative is its collaboration with the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the Housing and Urban Development Department.

Together, they aim to provide pre-constructed, ready-to-move-in homes for deserving families.

This approach not only speeds up the process but also offers a comprehensive solution for those in urgent need of housing.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif reaffirmed her commitment to solving housing challenges. She emphasized that the program goes beyond infrastructure development; it is a step toward social equity.

“Everyone deserves the dignity and security of their own home. This program is a testament to our dedication to uplifting the marginalized and creating a more inclusive Punjab,” she added.

The “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” initiative is not just about building houses; it’s about fostering hope and ensuring a brighter future for thousands of families.

By addressing fundamental housing needs, the Punjab government is setting a precedent for sustainable and inclusive development across the region.
