Islamabad, Aug 31: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA), which targets establishments that violate health and safety laws, has intensified its campaign against hazardous food practices in Lahore. It recently closed a mayonnaise factory in Mehrpura, fined $100,000, and seized 600 kg of hazardous and inferior mayonnaise to be destroyed.

Due to inadequate sanitation and disregard for previous instructions, the unit was closed. DG Asim Javed outlined problems such as inexperienced workers without medical certifications, poor personal hygiene, a freezer that breaks down, walls covered in fungus, and an unhygienic bathroom in the processing area.

It was also discovered that the facility was storing non-food grade blue barrels and employing color additives that were forbidden. The owner was sued for deceptive labeling, which resulted in the closing of the unit. Asim Javed emphasized that breaking the rules governing food safety would not be accepted and issued a warning that any item or substance that poses a health concern would be prohibited.
