Islamabad, Aug 6:  Florian Berg, a German visitor, has received financial support from the Punjab government after he was threatened and robbed close to Lahore Airport. The event has triggered fast action from local authorities. It involved the theft of cash and goods belonging to Berg. As a token of support, the Punjabi government gave Berg Rs 500,000.

During his bicycle tour of Pakistan, 27-year-old Florian Berg had set up camp in the northern Cantt area, where the incident took place. Berg filed a First Information Report (FIR), which states that the attack happened at midnight. Two anonymous attackers entered his tent, demanding money and going through his possessions, targeting him. One of the attackers grabbed Berg’s throat as he tried to run away physically abusing him and making him give over his possessions.

In reaction to the incident, Berg received an invitation to a meeting from Punjab Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal, who assured him that the police were aggressively attempting to capture the culprits. Berg was given a special cash aid package worth Rs. 500,000 by the home secretary during this meeting.

Berg expressed his appreciation and described the heist as a sad event, but he also highlighted his good experiences in Pakistan. He remarked, “The people of Pakistan are very friendly, and the country has a beautiful landscape.” “This has always been my favorite nation, and the people I have encountered have been incredibly friendly during my visit. I will return since I am delighted to be here despite this experience.

Berg said that bad things may happen anywhere and that he was grateful for the people of Punjab and the authorities there for their support. He continued, “The support I have received here has been unforgettable.”

The home secretary reaffirmed Pakistan’s government’s commitment to guaranteeing the security and welfare of all international visitors. Mengal said, “The government takes significant steps to ensure the security of all foreign tourists and treats them as honored guests.” “The police are making great progress in locating the robbers by utilizing contemporary technology.”
