Islamabad, Dec 31: Various districts of Punjab are experiencing heavy fog, which has led to the closing of the motorway at several places.

According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police, the motorway has been closed from M2 Thokar Niaz Baig to Kot Momin due to fog.

The motorway M3 from Lahore to Abdul Hakeem, the motorway M4 from Abdul Hakeem to Multan, and the M5 from Sher Shah Multan to Zahir Pir have been closed due to fog.

The spokesperson said that the Lahore-Sialkot motorway is also closed due to fog.

Specifically, the M2 motorway from Thokar Niaz Baig to Babu Sabu and the M3 from Samundri to Darkhana are completely closed. Additionally, the stretch of M4 between Shorkot and Gojra is also off-limits to traffic. Motorway Police have issued warnings and guidance, urging the public to avoid unnecessary travel and advising those who must travel to do so during safer, daylight hours.

The enforced motorway closures are part of broader efforts to safeguard the public from the dangers posed by the fog. By restricting travel and providing clear guidelines, authorities hope to reduce the incidence of vehicular accidents, which tend to rise during such poor visibility conditions. Compliance with these guidelines is essential for ensuring personal and communal safety.
