ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 10: The Punjab Health Department has significantly increased the entrance exam price for postgraduate medical schools, a decision that has aroused a great deal of anxiety within the medical community.
In order to sit for the MS and MD admission tests, prospective physicians must now pay Rs. 10,000, which is a 66% increase over the prior cost of Rs 6,000.
Following the inter-university board meeting’s approval of the move, the fee rise was announced. King Edward Medical University will now be in charge of administering the entrance exams for various medical programs in accordance with the new regulations. Medical experts have referred to the raise as “cruel” in light of the present financial challenges.
However, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has demanded that the recent increase in the entrance fee for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) be revoked. Meena Khan Afridi, the KP Minister for Higher Education, wrote to PMDC President Professor Dr. Riazuddin to urge a reduction in the admission exam price for medical institutions, citing worries about its recent increase.
Furthermore, it said that although though each candidate’s “actual expenses” were only between Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 2,000, the entrance exam price for medical college admissions had been raised from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 8,000.
