Islamabad, Oct 2: Punjab School Timings Changed for Winter 2024
The Punjab government has announced adjustments to school timings in Lahore as the winter season approaches.
Effective October 1, 2024, the new schedule will impact approximately 1,300 primary and secondary government schools in the city.
Under the previous arrangement, single-shift schools opened at 8:00 AM and dismissed students at 1:30 PM from Monday to Thursday, with early closure at noon on Fridays.
The revised timings will see schools starting at 7:45 AM, offering an earlier beginning to the school day. The dismissal time will remain unchanged at 1:30 PM during the weekdays, while Fridays will continue to end at noon.
In related news, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered the immediate closure of schools operating in unsafe and deteriorating buildings throughout the province.
Officials have been instructed to inspect all school facilities, and any buildings found to be structurally unsound will be sealed promptly to ensure student safety.
Parents and teachers have shown their support for the new school timings, highlighting the significance of students’ health and well-being.
The adjustment enables children to stay warmer during their commutes, which can enhance their concentration and performance in class. Many believe that starting school later will also help reduce absenteeism in winter, as students are less likely to fall ill from cold exposure.
The Punjab School Education Department has called on all educational institutions, both public and private, to adhere to the new timings.
This change affects all levels of education, from primary to higher secondary schools. School authorities are encouraged to communicate the updated schedules to parents to facilitate a smooth transition.
