Islamabad, Jan 29: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has set an ambitious target for the swift construction of at least 20,000 houses for low-income families in Punjab.

She emphasized the importance of advancing the Apni Chhat-Apna Ghar scheme at a special meeting on Tuesday. The scheme aims to provide free plots to homeless individuals across the province.

During the meeting, the chief minister reviewed the project’s progress and called for immediate action to speed up housing development.

The initiative focuses on delivering three and five-marla plots in various districts. To ensure efficiency, an eight-member committee has been formed to finalize the TORs, streamlining the plot distribution process.

Maryam Nawaz stressed the urgency of completing 2,807 plots in 35 schemes across 22 districts, along with an additional 1,119 plots in nine housing schemes within seven districts. The goal is to have 20,000 homes ready for residents by the end of February.

The chief minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving the annual goal of 100,000 homes, even in the face of challenges.

They told her that they had already disbursed Rs8.20 billion in loans for housing construction. 2,050 beneficiaries received their second installment.

The scheme has gained significant attention, with over 728,000 visits to the Apni Chhat-Apna Ghar portal, resulting in more than 400,000 fully documented applications. This growing participation demonstrates the scheme’s potential to transform the lives of countless individuals in Punjab, providing them with secure, affordable housing.
