Islamabad, Mar 22, 2025: To mark the International Day of Forests, an extensive tree plantation campaign was conducted in Rawalpindi and Attock, with over 200,000 saplings planted to enhance green spaces.

The initiative, launched at Allama Iqbal Park, aims to restore natural beauty and counteract deforestation.

As part of the Punjab government’s directives, the district administration organized multiple events to raise awareness about the importance of afforestation.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema officially inaugurated the campaign, accompanied by Member National Assembly (MNA) Tahira Aurangzeb, Provincial Assembly members Muhammad Hanif Advocate and Ziaullah Shah, along with senior officials from the Parks and Horticulture Authority Rawalpindi.

The event underscored the significance of trees in reducing pollution, lowering temperatures, and maintaining ecological balance.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Cheema emphasized the pressing need for afforestation, highlighting that unchecked urbanization and expanding housing projects have significantly contributed to deforestation

. He stressed that increased tree cover is essential to mitigating climate change effects and called upon students, civil society organizations, and young volunteers to actively participate in environmental conservation efforts.

Simultaneously, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) launched its own plantation campaign in Rawalpindi.

However, WASA Managing Director Muhammad Saleem Ashraf initiated the drive by planting a sapling at the agency’s headquarters.

Director Admin Muhammad Umar Farooq, along with other officials and staff members, also took part.

The campaign aims to plant saplings across WASA offices, with a goal of planting thousands of trees in the coming weeks to support the government’s green initiatives.

In a parallel effort, the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) hosted a “Plant for Pakistan” event, featuring Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Culture Shazia Rizwan.

The program fosters environmental awareness and encourages individuals to take proactive steps toward sustainability.

Meanwhile, in Attock, the district administration marked International Day of Forests with the launch of a spring plantation drive.

Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Engineer Aamir Khattak inaugurated the campaign by planting a sapling at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Agricultural University’s Attock campus.

Although, The initiative highlights the crucial role of forests in combating climate change and ensuring a healthier future for upcoming generations.

These large-scale plantation drives demonstrate a collective commitment to a greener Punjab.

However, Authorities continue to urge citizens, especially the younger generation, to contribute to these efforts by planting and nurturing trees, reinforcing the province’s fight against climate change and deforestation.
