ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 12: A major shift in healthcare administration has been proposed by the Punjab government, which aims to contract out clinical departments of government hospitals to private organizations.

This program is a component of a pilot project to enhance the public health sector’s effectiveness and service delivery in the province.

The project’s first focus will be on the following five districts’ hospitals: Children’s Hospital in Faisalabad, Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Dera Ghazi Khan Teaching Hospital, Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan, and Sahiwal Teaching Hospital.

The Punjab government hopes to improve care quality and expedite operations in these facilities by handing over these vital services to private management.

According to sources, the choice to outsource these services was made with the hope that private organizations would be able to offer more specialized knowledge and more operational efficiency. Whether the plan is extended to other government hospitals in the future will depend on how well this pilot initiative performs.

The Punjab Health Department will keep a careful eye on the project’s results in order to assess its efficacy and viability for wider adoption.
