Islamabad, Dec 19: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has decided to bar Punjab University Law College in Lahore from admitting new LLB students due to a failure to meet essential legal and institutional requirements. This decision follows the college’s inability to register its law students with the PBC, which is a critical procedural step in ensuring the legitimacy of legal education.
In addition to registration issues, the PBC highlighted concerns regarding the inadequate facilities at the college, including a subpar law research lab and deteriorating classroom conditions, which fail to meet the necessary standards for legal education. Furthermore, the absence of non-practicing allowances for law tutors was noted as another significant issue.
The inspection conducted by Barrister Osama Malik, the Director of Legal Education, revealed multiple irregularities within the institution, which ultimately led to the PBC’s decision. The council has now directed the college administration to address these concerns before it is allowed to resume accepting new students.
