Islamabad, Feb 25: Qatar has signed a five-year agreement with U.S.-based artificial intelligence company Scale AI to integrate AI-driven tools into its government operations, aiming to enhance efficiency and innovation in public services. The deal, announced by Qatar’s communications and information technology ministry, will focus on deploying AI-powered predictive analytics, automation, and advanced data analysis to streamline various governmental functions.
Trevor Thompson, Scale AI’s global head of growth, emphasized the significance of the partnership, describing it as a potential model for other governments looking to leverage AI for public sector improvements. While the financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed, the initiative will see Scale AI develop over 50 potential AI applications for Qatar’s government over the next five years.
The deal comes as Qatar intensifies its efforts to position itself as a regional leader in artificial intelligence, competing with neighboring Saudi Arabia and the UAE, both of which have been making significant strides in AI research and development. As a major gas producer and longtime U.S. ally, Qatar is leveraging its economic strength to accelerate digital transformation across key sectors.
Founded in 2016, Scale AI specializes in curating and refining vast datasets for training AI models, playing a critical role in the development of systems like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The company counts major tech firms such as Microsoft, financial institutions like Morgan Stanley, and AI startups including OpenAI and Cohere among its clients. By bringing its expertise to Qatar, Scale AI is expected to play a key role in shaping the country’s AI-driven future.
