ISLAMABAD: Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s Climate Change Coordinator, praised Qatar on Thursday for its contribution to strengthening Pakistan’s climate resilience. This came after talks with a high-level delegation from Qatar, which was led by Colonel Ahmed Abdullah Al-Abdullah. During the discussions, Qatar pledged to support Pakistan in this regard.

Among other things, the delegation had in-depth discussions on disaster response, environmental preservation, and climate risk management while at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.

Alam gave an overview of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s clean and green projects, which are meant to protect communities that are already at risk and support the country’s ability to respond to climate-related calamities like heatwaves, floods, and land erosion.She underlined the serious climatic issues Pakistan is facing, such as rising temperatures and an increase in the frequency of natural disasters, which have a substantial influence on infrastructure, agriculture, and health.

Alam also discussed how climate change is making water scarcity worse and how this is affecting water supplies and agriculture.Colonel Al-Abdullah reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to aiding Pakistan in these areas while applauding Pakistan’s efforts in disaster relief and climate adaption.The talks emphasized how committed both countries are to developing solid bilateral ties in order to combat the negative effects of climate change.
