Islamabad, Apr 4, 2025: Qualcomm has unveiled its latest flagship mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, marking a significant update in its premium chipset series.

Known internally as the SM8735, this chip is crafted using TSMC’s advanced 4nm N4P fabrication process. Unlike its top-tier counterpart, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, it retains the tried-and-tested Kryo CPU instead of the newer Oryon cores.

CPU and GPU Performance

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 comes with a powerful CPU architecture, featuring a single Cortex-X4 core running at 3.2GHz, paired with three Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 3.0GHz.

Additionally, two more Cortex-A720 cores operate at 2.8GHz, while two others function at 2.0GHz.

Qualcomm claims this chip boosts performance by 31% compared to the previous Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, all while consuming 39% less energy.

Furthermore, the upgraded Adreno 825 GPU brings a 49% improvement in graphics performance, supporting on-device ray tracing and featuring Snapdragon Elite Gaming technologies like Game Super Resolution 2.0 and Adreno Image Motion Engine 2.0.

AI and Imaging Advancements

In the AI department, the Hexagon NPU offers a 44% performance boost, enhancing machine learning capabilities.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 equips photography and video with an 18-bit triple ISP that supports cameras with up to 320MP resolution and 4K HDR video capture at 60 frames per second.

Connectivity and Storage

On the connectivity front, the chip features the Snapdragon X75 modem, enabling 5G download speeds of up to 4.2Gbps.

The limitation is on sub-6GHz frequencies.

The chip also supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and Qualcomm’s innovative XPAN technology for wireless audio transmission via Wi-Fi.

Additionally, the chipset is compatible with UFS 4.0 storage, LPDDR5X RAM, and USB 3.1 Gen 2, ensuring fast data transfer and responsiveness.

Availability

The iQOO Z10 Turbo will be the first smartphone to incorporate the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, launching later this month.

Other brands, including Xiaomi, Oppo, and Meizu, are expected to integrate this new chipset into their upcoming devices in the months to come.

This advanced chipset promises significant upgrades in performance, efficiency, and connectivity, setting a new standard for high-end mobile devices.
