Islamabad, Oct 22: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Debuts with Major Performance and Efficiency Boost
After a protracted period of leaks, Qualcomm has finally revealed the Snapdragon 8 Elite, its newest flagship chipset. The next generation of high-end Android handsets will be powered by this new chipset.
In an effort to maintain uniformity, Qualcomm has standardized its naming scheme for its laptop-based ARM-based X Elite CPUs.
With a 44% increase in efficiency and a 45% increase in CPU processing speed, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is built on TSMC’s state-of-the-art 3nm technology.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite, which has an Oryon CPU, is comparable to its laptop equivalents. With two high-performance cores operating at 4.32 GHz and six efficiency cores functioning at up to 3.53 GHz, this specially developed processor has an eight-core architecture.
An impressive 24MB L2 cache completes this potent configuration, establishing a new benchmark for the sector. The chipset also supports LPDDR5X RAM, which has a maximum speed of 5,300 MHz.
As part of its new chipset, the firm unveiled a redesigned Adreno GPU that promises a notable increase in both speed and energy efficiency. Along with improved gaming ray-tracing technology, users may anticipate a noticeable 40% improvement in these areas.
At the heart of this chipset is the new Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU). This specialized hardware accelerates AI tasks by 45%, while simultaneously improving energy efficiency. Qualcomm has also integrated its AI Engine, which boasts multimodal Gen AI support.
This feature enables the chip to handle large and small multimodal models, with the ability to process up to 70 tokens on Small Language Models (SLMs), marking a significant step forward in on-device AI processing.
With the new Hexagon NPU, the chip’s sophisticated image signal processing (ISP) unit is now more tightly integrated. Significant gains in image quality, such as improved HDR, more realistic skin tones, and more vivid sky colors, are anticipated as a result of this synergy. Additionally, users can anticipate better autofocus performance.
Availability
The majority of OEMs, including Xiaomi, Samsung, Vivo, Oppo, Realme, Honor, Asus, and several more, are expected to adopt Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite CPU in the upcoming generation of Android flagships.
The release dates of several major smartphones, such as the Realme GT7 Pro, OnePlus 13, and Honor Magic 7 series, have already been revealed. It is anticipated that the Xiaomi 15 would be among the first gadgets to use this chipset.
