Islamabad – May 2, 2025: Rajasthan Royals’ hopes of progressing in IPL 2025 came to a disappointing end on Thursday after suffering a crushing 100-run defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Opting to bowl first, Rajasthan’s bowlers struggled as Mumbai posted a commanding total of 217 for 2 in their 20 overs. The opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton laid the foundation with a 116-run partnership, dominating the Royals’ attack from the outset.

Rickelton led the charge with an aggressive knock of 61 from just 38 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and three sixes. His stay at the crease ended in the 12th over when Maheesh Theekshana bowled him out. Rohit followed soon after, scoring 53 off 36 balls before being caught at long-off off Riyan Parag’s bowling.

Despite the double blow, Mumbai maintained momentum as captain Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav added an unbroken 94-run stand. Both finished on 48 not out from just 23 deliveries, helping their side cross the 200-run mark with ease.

In reply, Rajasthan Royals crumbled under pressure and were bowled out for just 117 in 16.1 overs. Jofra Archer top-scored with a 30-run knock, while Parag, Dubey, Jaiswal, and Jurel chipped in with modest contributions. The rest of the batting lineup failed to cross double figures.

Mumbai’s bowling attack, led by Karna Sharma and Trent Boult with three wickets each, proved too strong. Jasprit Bumrah added two wickets, while Pandya and Deepak Chahar took one each.

With this emphatic win, Mumbai Indians climbed to the top of the IPL 2025 points table with 14 points from 11 matches. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals became the second team to be eliminated from playoff contention, following Chennai Super Kings’ exit a day earlier.
