Islamabad, 30 April 2025: Tensions are rising in India as a wave of violence and hate speech targeting Muslims has been reported in several states, following an alleged false flag operation in Pahalgam.
Rights groups and local sources report a sharp rise in attacks, threats, and hate speech against Muslims in states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand.
Many of these actions are reportedly carried out by Hindu extremist groups, with the support or silence of some members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Human rights group Association for Protection of Civil Rights stated that Muslims are being deliberately targeted in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

In Maharashtra, state minister Nitesh Rane openly called for an economic boycott of Muslim businesses, urging people to shop only from Hindu vendors.
Since April 22, there have been at least 21 reported cases of violence, threats, and hate speech against Muslims.
In one tragic case in Agra, a Muslim man was killed, with the attacker claiming it was in “revenge” for the Pahalgam incident.
In Uttar Pradesh, a Muslim restaurant worker was killed, with attackers citing “2,600 deaths for 26” as their motive.

Kashmiri and Indian Muslim students have also faced discrimination and harassment, with reports of them being labelled as “terrorists” in schools and universities.
Female students and workers are also experiencing growing hostility and threats.
Protests have erupted in Kashmir, where locals have rejected Indian media narratives and voiced strong opposition to the Modi government’s handling of the Pahalgam episode.
Observers fear that the current wave of hate-driven violence could escalate further, deepening divisions and putting millions of Indian Muslims at risk of social and physical harm.
