Islamabad, Feb 3: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) started February 2025 on a bearish note, closing in the red against the US Dollar (USD) after opening at 280 in the interbank market. Throughout the day, the interbank rate fluctuated between 278 and 280, before closing at the 278 level. In the open market, the exchange rate remained slightly higher, ranging from 279 to 282.

The PKR depreciated by 0.03 percent on a day-on-day (DoD) basis, losing two paisas to close at 278.95 against the US Dollar. On a fiscal year-to-date basis, the rupee has seen a slight depreciation of 0.26 percent.

Despite the loss against the US Dollar, the rupee showed positive movement against several other major currencies. It lost two paisas each against the UAE Dirham (AED) and the Saudi Riyal (SAR), but posted gains against others. The rupee gained Rs. 3.53 against the Canadian Dollar (CAD), Rs. 5.17 against the Euro (EUR), and Rs. 4.08 against the British Pound (GBP). Additionally, the PKR strengthened by Rs. 2.67 against the Australian Dollar (AUD).

Overall, while the PKR struggled against the US Dollar today, it gained against some key global currencies, offering a mixed performance in the currency market.
