ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 7: A new LPDDR5X DRAM chip from Samsung boasts the smallest profile in its class. The 12nm chips, which come in 12 GB and 16 GB versions, are made especially for low-power devices, such smartphones with sophisticated on-device AI features.

The width of the new chip is only 0.65 millimeters, which makes it 9% thinner than the previous model. According to Samsung, this thickness decrease would result in a 21.2% increase in cooling efficiency.

Samsung developed the LPDDR5X chip, which has a thickness similar to a fingernail, by improving its printed circuit board and epoxy molding compound techniques. The chip has a four-layer stacked architecture, with two LPDDR DRAMs in each layer.
