Islamabad, Nov 12: Schools Closed in Five Divisions Due to Smog in Punjab

In response to rising air pollution, the Punjab government has decided to close educational institutions in five additional divisions due to worsening smog conditions.

Schools and colleges in the Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Sahiwal divisions will remain closed from November 13 to 17, as per the Environmental Protection Department’s directive.

This applies to all schools, academies, and tuition centers for students from nursery to grade 12.

Earlier shutdowns in Gujranwala, Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad divisions continue to be enforced as part of the government’s efforts to mitigate health risks from severe smog.

In Lahore, additional measures have been taken, including a ban on outdoor activities from November 11 to 17, halting sports, events, and outdoor dining, though religious gatherings are exempt.

Shops, markets, and malls must close by 8 PM, except for essential services such as medical stores, labs, petrol stations, and grocery stores.

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has also increased efforts to clean trees and plants along green belts and roadways in Lahore.

The Deputy Commissioner has urged residents to limit outdoor activities and wear masks to reduce health risks from the smog.
