ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 20: The Ministry of Industries and Production and the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) were dissolved on Monday by the Senate Functional Committee on Devolution. After examining the financial results of these ministries over the preceding two fiscal years, the committee decided to approve this.

Concerns over Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) operations and investments were also brought up by the committee. In addition, the topic of PSM’s 440 million rupee gas bill came up for discussion, and representatives made it clear that the gas supply to the losing company had been cut off.

In addition to reviewing the Petroleum Division’s performance, the committee voiced concerns over the establishment of seventy new firms without the required regulatory approvals. The committee asked for information about the boards of these businesses and, should problems continue, asked the prime minister to step in.

The committee decided to devolve the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) at the conclusion of the meeting.
