Islamabad, 26 April 2025: Former pacer Shoaib Akhtar hailed Mohammad Amir’s brilliance and criticised the PCB for years of player mismanagement.

Reflecting on an earlier match against Australia, Akhtar recalled how Amir’s swing had unsettled David Warner, leaving the Australian opener unsure of how to respond.

Akhtar mentioned that while he was being attacked by Warner, Amir’s spell made it difficult for the batter to judge whether to move forward or stay back.

According to Akhtar, Amir’s quality has remained consistent over time. He praised the left-armer’s ability to read the game, understand field settings, and adjust his bowling strategies based on match situations.

Akhtar believed that Amir’s intelligence and control over his craft made him stand out among Pakistan’s long list of fast bowlers.

The former pacer also spoke about Amir’s strong work ethic, revealing that the Quetta Gladiators’ bowler preferred his own warm-up routine.

Akhtar said Amir would often bowl three to four overs before matches, carefully assessing his rhythm and form instead of following the team’s general exercises.

Calling Amir a major asset for Pakistan cricket, Akhtar criticised the way talented players had been managed, blaming the authorities rather than the athletes.

He stressed that if the management could not understand the needs and challenges faced by players, they should not hold their positions.

Backing Akhtar’s views, former bowler Sohail Tanvir also pointed out the ongoing issues within Pakistan cricket.

He stated that players had often complained about being denied proper opportunities for farewell matches and not receiving the respect they deserved during their careers.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir, who is currently playing for Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10, has taken six wickets in four matches.
