Islamabad, 14 Apr, 2025: Christian Deputy Commissioner Sarah Javed has made history in Pakistan’s administrative landscape by becoming the first Christian woman appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Sanghar, a landmark decision underscoring the Sindh government’s commitment to inclusivity and diverse representation in public service.

As per the official notice issued recently, Sarah replaces Shehryar Gul in this key district leadership role.

A seasoned officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), Sarah belongs to the 2014 CSS cohort and has accumulated a wealth of field experience in high-pressure administrative roles.

Before her historic appointment as Christian Deputy Commissioner, Sarah Javed served effectively across several critical zones of Sindh.

She held posts such as Assistant Commissioner in Karachi’s Saddar and SITE areas, and in Hyderabad.

She also led as Additional Deputy Commissioner-I in Tharparkar, where her on-ground engagement with underserved communities strengthened local governance.

Her exceptional service during the peak of the COVID-19 crisis especially within Karachi’s District South earned her national acclaim and a special accolade recognizing her tireless dedication to the public’s well-being.

This groundbreaking appointment signals a broader effort by the provincial administration to bring underrepresented groups into decision-making positions.

Earlier this week, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah reaffirmed this approach by inducting candidates from marginalized communities such as the Kolhi, Bhil, and Meghwar into the provincial police force aiming for a more representative law enforcement body.

Addressing the broader issue of minority safety, the Chief Minister also revealed updated statistics on reported kidnappings: out of 310 cases documented during the 2024–25 period, only eight involved Hindu individuals, of whom seven have been successfully located and returned.

Sarah’s rise to the position of Deputy Commissioner isn’t just a personal milestone; it’s a beacon of hope and progress in the civil sector.
