Islamabad, Dec 25: The Sindh Government has been engaged in discussions with the Chinese automotive giant Yutong to establish a joint-venture assembly plant in Karachi, according to Sharjeel Inam Memon, the Sindh Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit. Speaking at the 18th Build Asia International Conferences and Exhibition on Tuesday at the Expo Center, Memon highlighted that this project would create significant employment opportunities for skilled workers in the province.

In addition to the assembly plant, the Sindh government is also considering launching an electric vehicle (EV) cab scheme and the importation of 100 more buses to address the growing transportation needs of the province. The provincial government is making considerable efforts to boost economic activities in Sindh, particularly with a large-scale construction project in Karachi aimed at attracting foreign investors and overseas Pakistanis.

The government has already engaged with high-level Chinese business delegations and investors across various sectors, facilitating them at the Dhabajee Special Economic Zone, a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The goal is to establish various projects in the region. The Sindh government is also working closely with the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SFIC) to attract investment to Karachi, emphasizing the city’s role as a prime business destination.

Memon further stressed that the provincial government, in collaboration with the federal government, is committed to creating a conducive business environment, ensuring robust security for foreign investors, and rebuilding investor confidence in Pakistan. He also noted the importance of trade fairs, which attract foreign delegates and foster economic activities.

The Build Asia Exhibition and Conferences is Pakistan’s leading event for the construction and allied sectors, offering a platform for stakeholders to explore sustainable and environment-friendly construction innovations. The three-day event showcased the latest technologies and trends shaping the future of the construction industry, attracting over 35,000 visitors and exhibitors from 10 different countries across various sectors such as aluminum, cement, glass, steel, and transportation.
