Islamabad, Sep 25: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in New York on Tuesday for a five-day visit to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). His schedule includes addressing the General Debate on September 27, as well as participating in multiple high-level meetings and events.

Upon his arrival, he was received by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, Munir Akram. Throughout his visit, the prime minister will attend a reception hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, where he will engage in informal meetings with various heads of state. He will also meet Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu to discuss bilateral cooperation.

At the UNGA, PM Shehbaz will advocate for Pakistan’s perspective on key issues such as climate change, global security, terrorism, and long-standing conflicts like Palestine and Kashmir. He will attend high-level meetings, including discussions on the existential threat posed by sea-level rise and the UN Security Council’s debate on peace leadership.

PM Shehbaz is also expected to meet with key global leaders, including the UN Secretary-General, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. During these engagements, he will highlight Pakistan’s challenges, including climate change, debt burden, and regional conflicts.
