Islamabad, Oct 15: Sindh Malaria Cases Surge to Shocking Numbers in Just One Week
Sindh Malaria Cases have significantly increased; in the last week alone, nearly 100,000 new cases have been reported. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) reports that 106,684 cases have been confirmed throughout the province, underscoring the disease’s increasing threat.
With 11,588 instances reported, Larkana is the district most affected, followed by Khairpur with 10,681 cases. Notable increases were also observed in other districts: Dadu reported 6,045 cases, Qamar reported 7,998 cases, and Mirpurkhas confirmed 7,230 cases.
There were 5,948 infections in Badin, compared to 5,703 and 5,126 cases in Sanghar and Tharparkar, respectively. There were 4,809 instances reported in Tando Allahyar, 4,673 cases in Sukkur, and 4,590 cases in Naushehro Feroze. During the same time period, Umerkot recorded 3,546 instances, compared to 3,970 cases in Shikarpur.
With 779 cases recorded in the last week, the malaria outbreak in Karachi seems to be less serious than in other areas. With 155 cases, District West had the most infections in the city, followed by District East with 135 cases. Other regions included 82 cases in Korangi, 52 cases in District South, and 6 cases in Kemari.
In the meantime, the circumstances in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) continue to be concerning. during 54,000 instances of malaria have been documented in the province during the previous nine months, according to a report published last month. With 10,000 instances, Khyber district is the most afflicted. Shangla and Battagram report 6,000 and 3,000 cases, respectively.
Dera Ismail Khan and Tank reported 2,000 instances apiece, while Karak and other districts in KP recorded 4,000 cases. There has also been an upsurge in Lakki Marwat, with 3,000 cases so far this year.
