ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 1: The World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations endorsed the Sindh government’s plan on Wednesday to offer pupils free breakfast, lunch, and milk as part of its School Meal Programme (SMP).
WFP Country Director Coco Ushiyama met with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the CM House to talk about concerns concerning children who are not in school. The Chief Minister urged WFP to fund prototype projects that have the potential to grow in the future.
In an effort to provide kids with wholesome and sanitary meals, the province government intends to introduce the School Meal Program in partnership with the commercial sector, according to a news release from the CM House. Important educational goals including more enrollment, better attendance, and enhanced learning are the focus of this effort.
The WFP representative reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to helping Sindh’s school food program. The chief minister emphasized that the province government has been able to offer a variety of services, such as healthcare and nutrition, to registered pregnant and nursing mothers and their children with the help of the World Food Program.
Over 830,000 people have been engaged in the program thus far, spanning 30 districts and 140 stationary and mobile facilitation centers.
