Islamabad, 27 April 2025: Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated this week after New Delhi ordered all Pakistani nationals to leave the country by April 27.

Those visiting the nighboring country for medical reasons have been given until April 29 to exit.

Amid the diplomatic move, a public spat unfolded on social media between singer Adnan Sami and former Pakistani minister Fawad Hussain.

The controversy began when Hussain questioned the status of the singer by sharing a post on X (formerly Twitter) about the directive of Home Minister Amit Shah.

Hussain asked, “What about Adnan Sami?” seemingly overlooking the fact that Sami had become a naturalised Indian citizen in 2016.

Over the years, Sami has often expressed pride in his Indian citizenship, calling it his destiny.

Responding sharply, Sami mocked Hussain, referring to him as an “illiterate idiot” on X. The online exchange did not end there.

PTI joined the conversation, poking fun at Sami by suggesting he seemed deflated like a balloon losing air, and wishing him a quick recovery.

Sami hit back again, criticizing Hussain for getting his birthplace wrong. While Hussain had linked him to Lahore, Sami clarified that his family hailed from Peshawar.

He questioned how someone who once held the position of Minister of Information could display such ignorance, sarcastically calling him the “Minister of (Mis) Information.”

Taking another dig, Sami joked that while he may have lost air, Hussain remained a full balloon.

He went further, questioning the role of Hussain as Minister of Science, suggesting it was more about promoting falsehoods than scientific knowledge.

Meanwhile, the Indian government justified its move against Pakistani nationals by citing security concerns following a terror attack in Pahalgam.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs announced that Pakistani visas would be revoked starting April 27.

Indian citizens have also been urged to avoid travelling to Pakistan, with those already there advised to return as soon as possible.

The visa suspension marks a sharp deterioration in bilateral ties, even as public figures continue to clash across borders.
