Islamabad, Sep 20: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that the distribution of free solar panels under the “Roshan Gharana” program will begin in November.

During a meeting with the Planning and Development Board, approval was granted for the Chief Minister Fund for solar panel production. The meeting also reviewed 482 schemes for the construction and repair of 11,000 km of roads in Punjab.

Solar Panel Scheme Details

  • Eligibility:
    • Customers consuming between 50 to 500 units of electricity monthly.
  • Priority:
    • Needy families will be prioritized in Phase I of the project.
  • Government Subsidy:
    • The Punjab government will cover 90% of the cost of the solar panels, with consumers responsible for the remaining 10%.
  • System Capacity Determination:
    • The ratio of government electricity to solar energy will be determined based on user needs.

Additional Information

  • The scheme aims to solarize 7,500 tubewells in its first phase, with completion targeted by next June.
  • Over 35,000 farmers have already received Kisan cards in Punjab.
