Much as the Chief Justice himself denounced the ineptency of the police during the hearing of the matter by arguing that ‘if there is the will, anything can be achieved’.
Seeking forgiveness over the mishandling of a suicide case that took place at Punjab University recently, the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Usman Anwar said that the formal report under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure was never filed.
Further, the court threw out a report by Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) as being stale and prepared only after receipt of the notice. The Chief Justice also directed FIA to investigate social media related to incidences in Punjab Group of Colleges LCWU as well as Punjab University case.
Chief Justice Neelum added that students’ statement must be recorded in the presence of parents and university officials towards ensuring un[cnt] fabrications.
Due to several pleas filed by the applicants seeking the HC to conduct a higher-level investigation into the issue of harassment in educational institutions, and the subsequent release of a fake video involving Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari, she constituted a larger bench hearing this matter.
