The minister stated, “CPEC is a project for the prosperity of Pakistan and China, but also for the entire region.” China initiated several energy projects within the CPEC, such as the Karachi Port Energy Project, the Thar Coal Project, and the Sahiwal Coal Power Project.

According to him, a number of energy projects under the CPEC were started in 2013, when Pakistan was going through its worst energy crisis and load shedding of eight to nineteen hours was commonplace. These projects assisted Pakistan in overcoming its energy shortfall.

He maintained that Pakistan’s success from 2013 to 2018 was primarily due to China’s assistance in restructuring the country’s energy sector and the introduction of beneficial energy projects, such as nuclear, coal, hydro, and solar energy projects. China held the view that technological advancements, through energy sector diversification and restructuring, could end Pakistan’s crisis.

According to him, the GDP grew by 5.8% in 2018 but inflation was only 4%. The nation’s economy was currently improving, and China had been a major contributor to this. The minister said that since both China and Pakistan were launching the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the strategic collaboration between the two nations was admirable.

He claimed that during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China in the second phase of the CPEC, productive talks took place. He conveyed his sincere gratitude to Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong, Chinese authorities, and Chinese businesses for helping Pakistan not only get through its energy crisis but also to accelerate economic growth and create jobs for its citizens.

Speaking on the eve of the historic visit by the Chinese prime minister to Pakistan, he expressed his satisfaction in the occasion and stated that the people of Pakistan were celebrating and feeling joy.

He stated that Pakistan and China were fostering business-to-business cooperation under CPEC Phase-II, adding that this phase will truly be a game changer for the entire region. He claimed that Pakistan has demonstrated, with China’s help, that it was capable of resolving any problem in the most trying situations.
