Islamabad, Jan 10: On Thursday, hundreds of government employees, including school and college teachers, gathered in front of the Punjab Civil Secretariat to protest the provincial government’s decision to reduce pension, gratuity, and leave encashment benefits.The demonstration was organized by the All Government Employees Grand Alliance Punjab (AGEGA) and led by Ch Mukhtar Gujjar, Chairman of AGEGA Lahore Division.

The protest was led by AGEGA leaders, including Khalid Javed Singhera, Chairman of AGEGA Punjab, and Ziaullah Niazi. Protesters called for the immediate withdrawal of the notifications reducing their benefits, warning of province-wide sit-ins on highways if their demands were unmet.

The demonstration caused significant traffic disruptions on Lower Mall, The Mall, and surrounding roads. The interim Punjab government issued notifications for these cuts, prompting AGEGA activists to demand that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz revoke them.

The reduction in benefits has been a point of contention among government employees, with unions expressing strong opposition to the proposed changes.The AGEGA has warned of an extended strike if their concerns are not addressed.

The situation remains tense, with both the government and employees’ unions standing firm on their positions.The outcome of this dispute could have significant implications for government employees’ benefits and labor relations in the region.
