Islamabad, Sep 6: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reported the deployment of 170 cellular sites in the Upper Dir district by Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) to improve mobile services in the area.
Ten new sites have been installed by CMOs in the last year, demonstrating their dedication to improving cellular coverage and service quality in tandem with the PTA.
This extension is a component of continuous initiatives to improve connection in the nation’s outlying locations.
The PTA data indicates that with 73 installations, Telenor has the most sites in Upper Dir. It is followed Jazz with 47, Zong with 42, and Ufone with 8 sites.
The way the sites are distributed demonstrates how CMOs in the area are working hard to solve connectivity problems and enhance service quality.
The PTA reports that problems with Telenor’s data rate and Jazz’s call completion ratio were found during a survey in Upper Dir City in the third quarter of 2023.
In order to reevaluate Quality of Service (QoS) criteria, another resurvey is planned for the fourth quarter of 2024; however, it will be contingent upon weather conditions.
The authority is committed to improving mobile services across the country and has put in place a number of programs to raise QoS and cellular coverage.
These measures include proposing underserved areas to the Universal Service Fund (USF), integrating 4G technology into the current infrastructure, and opening new locations.
To improve coverage and capacity, more cutting-edge technologies are being implemented, including sector splitting, Massive MIMO, the launch of VoWiFi, WiFi-Offloading, and VoLTE.
The PTA has also been actively involved in organizing the phase-out of 3G and holding spectrum auctions.
PTA launched the National Roaming Facility to increase telecom penetration even more by enabling users to obtain coverage regardless of their CMO membership.
The Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication (MoIT&T) has approved the Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Framework, which encourages equitable and competitive sharing of telecom infrastructure.
