Islamabad, Aug 28: With great pride, Telenor Pakistan announces its involvement in the first-ever low-carbon Energy Storage as a Service (ESaaS) project launch in Pakistan, which represents a major turning point for the nation’s energy and communication industries.
An important turning point in Pakistan’s progress toward sustainable development is the ESaaS initiative. This program, which is being hosted by Brillanz Group in partnership with important players such as the Ministry of Climate Change, Telenor Pakistan, Bank of Punjab, and Saudi-Pak Investment Company, highlights the crucial convergence of technical innovation with environmental responsibility.
“Our participation in this groundbreaking project underscores Telenor Pakistan’s dedication to reducing our environmental footprint while ensuring the long-term sustainability of our operations,” said Mr. Khurram Ashfaque, CEO of Telenor Pakistan, underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainability. Adopting low-carbon energy storage solutions is helping to create a more sustainable and greener Pakistan in addition to revolutionizing our infrastructure.
The Chief Technology Officer of Telenor Pakistan, Mr. Awais Vohra, emphasized the technological developments that made this project revolutionary for the sector. Mr. Vohra stated, “We are taking a significant step towards reducing our reliance on diesel generators with the deployment of 25 MWh of battery infrastructure.” “This initiative will drive environmental and operational excellence, setting a precedent for the entire industry, while simultaneously reducing approximately 1.1 million generator run hours annually.”
The founder and CEO of Infralectric by Brillanz Group, Mr. Bilal Qureshi, emphasized the telecom industry’s enormous role in combating climate change, pointing out that its carbon footprint surpasses even that of international aviation. We are not just starting a project today; rather, we are leading a revolutionary change in the way Pakistan’s telecom industry powers its infrastructure. For us, this innovative project is a declaration of intent rather than merely an investment.
This initiative will become a global model for sustainable innovation, as well as a new norm for Pakistan. We will save approximately PKR 5 billion in costs throughout the course of this project by eliminating the use of more than 21 million liters of diesel, according to Mr. Qureshi.
It is anticipated that the ESaaS initiative will reduce the telecom industry’s carbon footprint by about 8.33 kilotons yearly, or almost 295,000 trees planted annually. This program is in perfect harmony with Telenor Pakistan’s overarching goal of incorporating sustainability into all aspect of its company operations.
