The Ministry of IT has established a Project Management Unit (PMU) for the DEEP project, appointing Director General IT Asfandyar Khan as the temporary Project Director.

Aside from the main PMU at the Ministry of IT, two additional units have been formed at Ignite and the National Information Technology Board (NITB).

According to sources cited by ProPakistani, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Board of Investment (BOI) have also established their respective PMUs. These units are currently temporary and will transition into permanent entities after the completion of the hiring process.

In March, the World Bank’s Board of Directors sanctioned the $78 million DEEP project. Its primary objective is to bolster the government’s capacity for digitally-enabled public service delivery to citizens and businesses.

The initiative aims to enhance access to digital services nationwide, focusing particularly on broadband accessibility and narrowing the digital gap. Additionally, it will facilitate reforms to expand broadband connectivity and fortify the policy and legal framework supporting the digital economy.
