The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning about an ongoing nationwide monsoon rains, expected to continue until July 27. The warning comes as strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are forecasted to penetrate the upper regions of Pakistan.

The coastal regions of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Larkana Division, Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, and Islamkot, are among those that are expected to encounter thunderstorms and rain tonight, according to the National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC).

Additionally, there will likely be heavy to moderate rainfall in numerous regions of Azad Kashmir, including the Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur, as well as in Rohri and Rahim Yar Khan in southern Punjab.

Significant rainfall is predicted in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Mohmand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan. Gilgit-Baltistan is likewise under alert for comparable meteorological circumstances.

The risk of urban floods, rising river and stream levels, and landslides in hilly areas is increased by the heavy rain. To lessen these possible effects, the NDMA has asked the public and all pertinent authorities to adopt the appropriate safety measures. Resources are being gathered, and Emergency Response Teams have been notified, in order to guarantee a prompt reaction to any potential emergencies.
It is been recommended that visitors stay away from damaged locations during this time. Additionally, the NDMA advises installing the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” smartphone app to receive notifications in real time and keep track of weather data.

The intense downpour provided much-needed respite from the oppressive heat in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The rain, which began early in the morning and continued for almost two hours, was mild to heavy at different points in time. Significant rainfall was reported by the Meteorological Department in the following locations: Shamsabad, 41mm at Chaklala, 10mm at Kutcheri in Rawalpindi, 50mm at Zero Point, 6mm at Bokra, 61mm at Saidpur, 20mm at Golra, and 4mm at the Islamabad airport.
