ISLAMABAD, JULY 18: Mehar Sahibzada Khan, the director general of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), has urged locals and visitors to take preventative measures in reaction to the current monsoon rains, which are expected to last till July 21. He underlined how crucial it is to stay away from landslide-prone locations.
Khan urged people not to let their kids near electrical lines, poles, or wet spots in a statement to a television channel. “Our top priority is ensuring the safety of citizens’ lives and property,” he emphasized.According to Khan, Jehlum City received the most monsoon rainfall on Thursday morning 53 millimeters while Islamabad only received 10 mm. More rain is predicted for the evening.
In order to avoid any unfortunate situations during the current rainy spell, the PMD has instructed representatives from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), and other district administrations to maintain vigilance.
A fresh round of rain, wind, and thundershowers is predicted for all four provinces, including the territories of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), because of the current weather system.
The general population has been urged to take safety measures against lightning strikes and flooding. It is advised that people stay indoors during inclement weather and keep a safe distance from electrical poles and wires. In order to notify nearby communities, visitors, and travelers in high-risk areas, pertinent departments have been directed to carry out their assigned responsibilities with utmost diligence. Avoiding needless travel has also been recommended to both locals and visitors. Khan emphasized that during the time, roadways in hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan could be affected by landslides.
In response to a question, Khan said that weather conditions are continuously monitored by the PDMA control center. To ensure safety, the public has been advised to follow government directives. In order to produce precise weather forecasts, he continued, the PDMA is totally focused on real-time data.Khan said, “We are dedicated to protecting the public by delivering timely and accurate weather updates.”
