Islamabad, Oct 7: The government of the United Kingdom, in collaboration with Middle Eastern institutions, is set to provide jobs to millions of Pakistanis globally by establishing 280 skills centers across Pakistan.

A high-level British delegation is currently on a two-day visit to Pakistan to discuss potential cooperation in education, with a special emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Delegation Highlights

The delegation comprises notable figures, including:

  • Lord Boateng
  • Wendy Thomson, House of Lords member
  • Professor Peter Edward, University of Greenwich Vice-Chancellor
  • Professor Richard Grose, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Queen Mary University
  • Tony Degazon, City and Guilds Regional Director
  • Dr. Aamir, Executive Director of GEMS Middle East

Their mission is to initiate skill development programs tailored to meet the needs of Pakistan’s industry.

Collaborative Efforts

To discuss mutual interests, Pakistani representatives included:

  • Mohiyuddin Wani, Federal Secretary Education
  • Miss Gulmina Bilal, Chairperson of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC)
  • Executive Director NAVTTC

During the discussions, it was emphasized that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and other government officials prioritize quality training to prepare Pakistanis for both local and global job markets.

Job Opportunities and Certifications

The delegation announced the establishment of 280 skills centers, which will offer joint certifications from Pakistani, UK, and Gulf universities to successful trainees. In the initial phase, 80,000 jobs will be available for candidates who complete their training, with opportunities in various Gulf countries, including Dubai, specifically in sectors such as:

  • Security
  • Hospitality
  • Construction
  • Veterinary nursing

Commitment to Workforce Development

The delegation reiterated its commitment to addressing the global demand for skilled labor through these centers, stating that they will provide manpower wherever needed, especially in the Gulf region.

A representative remarked, “We are committed to promoting educational cooperation that will empower Pakistani youth and meet the needs of industries in Pakistan and abroad. We can create sustainable pathways for success.”
