Islamabad, Oct 22; The Sindh Food Authority (SFA) recently carried out two significant operations in Thatta and Karachi as part of its continuous efforts to guarantee the safety of food and water throughout the province.

During a search on a distribution center in Thatta, the SFA team, under the direction of food safety officer Natasha, also known as Marium, confiscated 12,000 liters of contaminated cooking oil.

The public’s health was seriously endangered by the inferior oil, which was prepared for sale under regional brand names. The unit was fined Rs 500,000 by the SFA for delivering subpar oil, and the whole stock was seized.

Muzamil Hussain Halepoto, the SFA’s director general, stressed the value of public health by declaring, “We will not tolerate the sale of unsafe cooking oil.” Such activities will continue to guarantee that only safe, high-quality items are available in the market, and this measure is an essential step in protecting consumers.

The SFA examined reverse osmosis (RO) plants in the South and East districts of Karachi in a different operation. Eleven factories were found to have serious infractions that did not meet World Health Organization (WHO) requirements, including microbiological contamination, corroded equipment, antiquated filters, and filthy water tanks.

To avoid further endangering the public’s health, these factories were sealed. Director General Halepoto promised to keep cracking down on subpar facilities and reaffirmed their commitment to making sure RO plants fulfill international quality requirements.

After inspecting 463 food business units and RO plants throughout the province, the Sindh Food Authority discovered that 233 of them had been closed or moved, and it also inspected 58 newly discovered factories. The SFA’s WhatsApp complaint number, 0330-0116533, is open to the public for reporting concerns about inferior RO plants or tainted food items.

Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah launched a comprehensive fumigation program in Karachi to stop the spread of dengue and other diseases as part of a separate plan.

Targeting neighborhoods like Saddar, Lyari, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Sohrab Goth, Jinnah, and Korangi, the program would be carried out throughout Karachi’s 25 town municipal corporations (TMCs). Extensive spraying and fumigation efforts throughout the city are intended to eradicate dengue larvae.
