Islamabad, Sep 10: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said that it will be deploying advanced radars throughout the nation.
Through improving weather forecast timeliness and accuracy, this effort seeks to increase disaster preparedness and offer vital insights into climate change.
Five permanent monitoring radars will be installed by the PMD in key areas, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Cherat, Dera Ismail Khan, Quetta, Gwadar, and Lahore.
Karachi will keep up its important role in the nation’s weather monitoring network since it already has a radar station that works well.
Three portable surveillance radars will be placed across the country in addition to the stationary radars, providing more flexibility and improved coverage.
In addition, 300 automated weather sensors will be set up throughout multiple cities to offer real-time information.
Balochistan would receive 105 of these stations, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 75, Sindh 85 (including Karachi), and Punjab 35.
Pakistan’s capacity to track and react to weather-related occurrences should be greatly improved with the installation of these contemporary weather radars and stations.
The new system will help with better forecasting and early warning systems, which will ultimately contribute to enhanced disaster management and public safety, by delivering timely and accurate insights into climate change.
