Islamabad, Apr 22, 2025: WhatsApp has begun rolling out a highly anticipated translation feature for Android users participating in its beta program.

Initially discovered in development last year, the feature is now accessible to users with beta version 2.25.12.25, and it’s expected to reach more testers in the near future.

Translate Messages Offline

A standout aspect of this feature is its ability to translate messages directly on the device without requiring an active internet connection.

Users only need to download the necessary language pack, which enables real-time translations without consuming data or causing delays.

Additionally, there’s a separate downloadable pack that automatically detects the language of incoming messages and translates them instantly.

Supported Languages and Functionality

Currently, the feature supports five major languages: Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Hindi, and Russian.

Users have the option to enable automatic translations on a per-chat basis via the chat info screen, or they can choose to manually translate individual messages through the message options menu.

Accuracy and Privacy Considerations

Since WhatsApp uses lightweight, on-device translation instead of cloud-based processing, the translation accuracy may not match that of services like Google Translate.

Nevertheless, Meta has incorporated a feedback system to improve translations over time, while ensuring that both original and translated messages remain private.

Availability and Future Plans

This feature is presently available to a select group of beta users. If you’re one of them, check your app settings to see if the translation toggle is enabled.

As always, user feedback will play a crucial role in refining the feature before its eventual public release, the date for which remains uncertain.
