Islamabad, Feb 1: WhatsApp is taking on Google Calendar with a new event scheduling feature aimed at simplifying how users organize their plans. Previously available only in group chats and communities, the feature is now being rolled out to select beta testers using the latest WhatsApp beta version on the Google Play Store.
The new event feature enables users to schedule and manage events directly within their one-on-one chats, removing the need for external calendar apps. For instance, if two colleagues share a common deadline, they can easily create an event in their WhatsApp chat, and both will receive simultaneous reminders. Additionally, events can be linked to video or voice calls, making it simpler to organize scheduled meetings without leaving the app.

When an event is created, the recipient can choose to accept or decline the invitation, making the process of scheduling meetings more seamless and efficient. This feature is expected to rival traditional scheduling apps like Google Calendar, offering WhatsApp users a more integrated solution for managing their time.
As with most beta features, the rollout will be gradual, and it may take weeks or even months before the feature exits beta and becomes widely available. However, given that testing has already begun, it’s only a matter of time before users globally can take advantage of this new tool. WhatsApp users are encouraged to keep their app updated to stay ahead with the latest features and improvements.
