Islamabad, Oct 1: Windows 11 Update Breaks PCs, Laptops

Microsoft has alerted users that some Windows 11 systems may experience reboot loops or freezing after installing the September 2024 KB5043145 preview update.

Released on Thursday, this update addressed issues like freezes with Edge and the task manager.

Following the update, Microsoft updated the KB5043145 support document to acknowledge a new issue. Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 users may encounter restart loops or unresponsive systems.

Some users reported repeated restarts or freezes with blue or green screens, and some devices launched the Automatic Repair tool after multiple restart attempts. BitLocker recovery might also be triggered in certain cases.

The Automatic Repair tool, part of the Windows Recovery Environment, helps resolve system crashes. Microsoft is advising customers with boot issues after the KB5043145 update to provide feedback through the Feedback Hub.

The company is investigating the problem and promises an update once more details are available.

In August, Microsoft fixed similar boot and freeze issues in Windows Server 2019 and is also addressing a Linux boot issue on dual-boot systems with Secure Boot enabled, introduced by August 2024 security updates. In July, a bug in the Windows security updates led to some devices entering BitLocker recovery, which was resolved in August.

Additionally, the June 2024 KB5039302 preview update caused restart loops and taskbar problems, which Microsoft also addressed.

Microsoft continues to monitor and resolve boot-related issues across various updates.
