Islamabad, Feb 17: It’s been nearly four years since Spotify first teased its HiFi streaming option back in February 2021, but the feature has yet to materialize. However, a new Bloomberg report indicates that the long-awaited rollout may finally occur by the end of 2025. Along with the promised higher-quality audio, the service will be rebranded as Spotify Music Pro, priced at an additional $6 per month on top of the existing $12 Premium plan.

The price increase will likely translate to an extra £6 in the UK and AU$7 in Australia. But Spotify is not just offering lossless audio with this new plan. Subscribers will also gain access to exclusive features like remixing tools, potentially AI-powered, and discounts on concert tickets. Spotify believes that dedicated music fans are willing to pay extra for these premium features, making Music Pro a more enticing offering.

The delayed launch has been attributed to Spotify’s indecisiveness over the features and pricing of the HiFi tier. Multiple branding ideas have been floated since 2021, including the potential name Spotify Supremium. Last year, Music Pro appeared hidden in the Spotify app code, suggesting potential features like playlist-filtering, though the company has kept many details under wraps.

Spotify’s rollout of Music Pro may happen in phases, rather than a single global launch. This could mean that some features may be introduced first, with others arriving over time.In comparison to its rivals, such as Apple Music and Amazon Music, which already offer lossless audio at no extra cost, Spotify’s approach of charging extra for these features is a bold move. However, the added benefits, like AI-driven remixing tools and ticket discounts, could make Music Pro a more appealing package for fans willing to pay extra.

While no official launch date has been confirmed, Spotify has indicated it will focus more on music in 2025, suggesting that Spotify HiFi could finally become a reality by the end of the year. Fans are hopeful that this much-anticipated feature will soon be available for streaming enthusiasts worldwide.
