Islamabad, Nov 7: Xiaomi Speeds Up SU7 Electric Car Production Amid Surge in Orders
Xiaomi’s electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility is preparing to boost output in the final two months of 2024 to accommodate increasing demand.
The SU7, which is Xiaomi’s inaugural EV model and was introduced in March, is now being manufactured at the company’s facility in Beijing.
This factory currently has a production capacity of 150,000 units annually, and plans are in place to enhance this capacity.
The facility reached 160% capacity in October, producing more than 20,000 units.
Xiaomi plans to increase its monthly production to 24,000 units for November and December, approaching a 200% utilization rate to meet delivery needs.
The firm anticipates reaching its objective of 100,000 total deliveries of the SU7 series by November, with an updated aim of 120,000 for the entire year.
Although there is a waiting period of 21 weeks for new orders, the demand for the SU7 continues to be robust, with an average of 4,000 units ordered each week since August.
On October 29, Xiaomi launched pre-sales for the SU7 Ultra, scheduled to be released in March 2025.
The base price for the Ultra variant is RMB 814,900 ($114,720), significantly more than the standard SU7.
In just 10 minutes after its release, the Ultra model garnered 3,680 pre-orders.
Xiaomi is set to diversify its offerings with the introduction of an SUV known as MX11, expected to debut in 2025.
Due to high consumer demand and the arrival of new models, the company is accelerating the development of the second phase of its electric vehicle manufacturing facility.
Work on the phase two facility is ongoing, with employees working in two shifts to adhere to the timeline. Once completed, it will help to alleviate the pressure on Xiaomi’s delivery system.
