Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, has announced the opening of a new smartphone manufacturing facility in Changping, Beijing. Known as a “dark factory,” this highly automated structure has a number of remarkable features.
First off, the manufacturing runs without human involvement around-the-clock. This is made possible by highly developed machinery that works in unison to maintain output around-the-clock. The factory also has a self-regulating dust removal system, which guarantees that the fragile smartphone components are kept in an extremely clean atmosphere.
With the opening of its new “black factory” in Changping, Beijing, Xiaomi is making a significant step forward in the manufacturing of smartphones. This fully automated plant has remarkable output capacities.
Xiaomi has created in-house intelligent machines that will provide constant quality monitoring throughout the manufacturing process. According to promotional brochures, the facility produces a new smartphone every second, demonstrating astounding efficiency.
With an estimated cost of 2.4 billion yuan, this ambitious endeavor marks a huge commitment for Xiaomi. The facility, which covers an enormous 81,000 square meters, has been recognized as a “national smart manufacturing benchmark enterprise.”
The plant is equipped to produce 10 million flagship smartphones annually, which includes the capacity to produce the forthcoming Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 and Xiaomi MIX Filp foldable phones.Although Xiaomi has made great strides toward automation with the Changping facility, it should be noted that the idea is not wholly novel to the company. Xiaomi finished building its first smart factory in Yizhuang, Beijing, in 2019.
With a high level of automation already in place, this previous plant produced the Xiaomi Mix Fold, the company’s first foldable phone. The next phase in Xiaomi’s goal of producing smartphones with ever-higher levels of automation is the Changping facility.
