Islamabad, Sep 9: Transgender community from different parts of the country have welcomed the government’s initiative of launching the Pakistan’s first transgender school in the Lodhran district of Punjab but urged the authorities to take follow-up action.

With about 20 pupils, the government-run Literacy department founded the school, and it started sessions more than five years ago.

The school wanted to assist this underserved group in carving out a place for itself in society.

With the introduction of Computerized National identities Cards (CNICs), the ability to run for office, and the creation of the first-ever special ward at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), it was founded following their protracted fight for their rights and identities.

” Pakistan’s first transgender school by the government will create more opportunities for our community to come forward and play their due role in national development,” Nadeem Kashish, a transgender, told APP.
